Macklemore is a new dad once again! The musician, who was born Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, just welcomed his third child with wife Tricia Davis, whom he married in 2015.
This is the first son for the couple. They’re already the parents of daughters Colette Koala Haggerty and Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty. They named their son Hugo. He was reportedly born last month but was just announced.
Tricia was the one to share the big news on social media first. “Six weeks ago in the shadow of the Buck Moon, this beautiful human came into our lives,” she captioned the photo. “He arrived rooted and calm, mostly just observing the two whirling dervishes around him… Welcome home Hugo. May you crush the distorted masculine and awaken the divine.”
The couple have been together for quite some time. Before getting married, they dated for seven years. The rapper admitted that fatherhood has been good to him, and it seems like he’s somewhat of a natural by the photos he shares of Colette and Sloane.
Macklemore commented on Trisha’s picture with a red heart, and it’s obvious he’s overjoyed to expand his family. His album Gemini was inspired a lot by his journey into fatherhood, and it’s a beautiful gift to give his children.
“My greatest achievement isn’t the dollars / My greatest achievement isn’t the followers / My greatest achievement isn’t the accolades / My greatest achievement is my daughter,” he states in the song “Excavate.”
He’s also opened up about what it’s like balancing fatherhood and his music career. Celebrities often have a lot of help, but many of them don’t want to rely on nannies to raise their kids. It seems like Macklemore really wants to be there and have the entire experience — which can be tough if he’s on tour.
In fact, Tricia even paid him a big compliment on Instagram well before his son arrived. In a picture she shared of him reading to his daughters in bed, she wrote about how good it felt to have him be so present.
“As a father you bring a flame into my life that lights a candle I long thought was burnt for good,” she said. “That light has allowed for forgiveness and love to enter my heart with my own father. Your desire to be present with your girls is unwavering… You bring endless laughter and creativity into our home, and we are so lucky to have you Ben.”
