Robin Roberts appeared on The Rachael Ray Show on Wednesday to talk about her new project, Last Chance Transplant. The show premieres Wednesday, September 22, on Discovery Plus and follows individuals who are on the journey to get transplant surgery. It’s an emotional project that is close to Robin’s heart.
After a battle with breast cancer, Robin was later diagnosed with a rare bone marrow disorder. Her doctors told her that without a successful transplant, she had only a year or two to live. Luckily, her sister was a bone marrow match. The transplant surgery saved Robin’s life.
Of course, Robin is eternally grateful to her sister. When she recalled the moment she learned that her sister was a match and that she wanted to be her donor, she couldn’t help but break down in tears.
“You just exhale and you’re like ‘I’ve got a chance,'” she told Rachael of that life-changing moment. “All you want is a chance and that’s what you see in this series.” But Robin also talked about another difficult part in the journey, which can be people who say they want to be donors but change their minds after learning they are a match.
Luckily for Robin, that wasn’t the case. Her sister told her that not only did she want to be her donor, but she felt like she was “born to” be her donor.
The conversation was truly moving and definitely has us interested in Robin’s new series.
